Recently I was contacted by Money Magazine, asking me to assist them in a story they were doing for their June issue. The attached article, "Retirement Interupted" is about a couple that moved to Florida from Virginia to be closer to family. They decided to earn extra income by buying and renovating homes to "flip". Unfortunately, this has turned out to be a difficult time in the Florida real estate market and Steve Daimler decided he needed to return to the workforce. While our business is not focused in the area of assisting individuals returning from retirement to the workforce, the same principles apply whenever people are looking for new positions
1) Understand what you are looking for
2) Learn how to talk about your skills, abilities, interests and goals
3) Develop a network of individuals that can be of assistance
4) Put together a daily regimen and stick with it until the goal is accomplished
I spent some time evaluating the Daimler's situation and provided advice to get Steve started. It has been about six weeks since we worked on the Money story, but in a conversation with Steve last week, he has scheduled some interviews and he is beginning to believe that he has marketable skills. I will stay in touch with him throughout the process. thought you would enjoy the Daimler's story.
