CAREER TRANSITION PROGRAM FOR SENIOR MANAGEMENT


The First Transitions’ Career Transition Program for Senior Management is individualized and covers all of the elements required for an effective personal marketing campaign. The program includes personal counseling sessions which emphasize major strategic phases: Personal Assessment and Evaluation; Campaign Objectives and Strategy; Resume and Correspondence Development; Interviewing and Presentation Skills and Campaign Implementation. These are further complemented by Counseling Reviews and on an as needed basis after the campaign has begun.

The First Transitions’ staff focuses on customizing program content to the individual’s specific circumstances and personal and professional objectives. A complete program manual is provided. Participants receive 500 copies of a professionally typed and printed resume and personalized stationery, secretarial support, telephone answering service, and six months of utilization of office space. The Personal and Professional Assessment is included as a preliminary aspect and foundation for this program.

A typical schedule for the Senior Management Program includes:

Introduction
    • Process feelings about termination.
    • Summarize program content.
    • Meet with spouse/significant other (if appropriate).
    • Introduce program manual.
    • Select and order personal stationery.
    • Begin drafting rationale for leaving statement.
II.
Getting Started
    • Finalize rationale for leaving.
    • Review work history and accomplishments.
    • Establish campaign objectives and work plan.
    • Develop personal marketing plan criteria.
    • Introduce resume development, discuss format, positioning, etc.
III.
The Marketing Plan
    • Critique resume draft and revise.
    • Discuss campaign, marketing plan, including traditional job hunting methods and emphasize the concepts of networking and targeting employers.
    • Develop networking contact list and target employers list.
    • Evaluate appropriate search firms
IV.
Networking
    • Review contact lists and discuss procedure for contacting.
    • Discuss presentation for meetings and interviews.
    • Introduce use of the phone in networking process.
    • Write telephone script for personal contacts.
    • Practice phone calls and phone interviews.
V.
The Interview
    • Discuss dynamics of interviewing.
    • Develop role play interview and practice with video tape.
    • Develop drafts of standard letters.
VI.
The Campaign
    • Review contact letters to be used in campaign.
    • Discuss offer evaluation and negotiation strategy.
    • Finalize campaign organization and plan of action.
    • Discuss remaining issues or concerns.
VII.
Follow-up
    • Schedule follow-up sessions.
    • Provide on-going support and strategy.
    • Assist in closing out the search.
