Russ has an extensive background in human resources consulting spanning more than 30 years. Since 1983, he has been in the career transition field, where he has specialized in providing job search and career change assistance to individuals sponsored by corporate clients in 45 of the United States. As the principal of First Transitions since 1993, the firm works with organizations experiencing organizational change and in coaching and developing leaders.
In the early years of First Transitions, the primary focus was in working with individuals affected by organizations experiencing position elimination, downsizing, merger, acquisitions, and facility closures. The firm has completed assignments for more than 500 organizations.
In 1995, First Transitions expanded its offerings to include Executive Coaching; organizational career development (Career Partnership®); Pre –Retirement Education Programs (PREP), 360 ° evaluations, succession planning and a variety of training programs. In 2000, these services were placed under the First Strategies umbrella, as a separate company division.
Prior to his current profession, Russ was a partner in an executive search firm specializing in the consumer package goods industry. Previously, he held corporate positions in sales, management, marketing and training for the Colgate-Palmolive Company and the Kroger Company.
A graduate of the University of Illinois’ College of Business at Urbana, Russ has written more than 200 published articles for the Wall Street Journal, Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, Hospital News, Modern Healthcare, Healthcare Executive, and Hospitals and Health Networks. He has also been interviewed for articles in Money, Smart Money, Kiplinger and Gentleman’s Quarterly and has appeared on CNN’s “Take it personally”.
Throughout Russ’ years in his current field, his focus has been on innovative, strategic career planning and personal/leadership development focusing on the uniqueness of each individual.
